Fairview Drive and Union Road Intersection Reconstruction and Water Main Extension

  •

The expansion of the Timber Ridge subdivision required new public utilities, including water. The multi-discipline project included roadway design on new alignment, roadway widening, water and sewer utility extensions and drainage design.

By extending the Fairview Drive water main to Union Road, it allows the Timber Ridge development to loop its water main providing better service and fire protection to the area. Additionally, residences along Fairview Drive will be able to tie into public water.

To accomplish this, LJB designed approximately 3,000 feet of 12″ DIP water main along Fairview Drive and 1,100 feet of 8″ DIP water main on Union Road. The extended water main required crossing both CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads by jacking and boring. Coordination with railroads, EPA and the subdivision developer were all handled by LJB. Approvals from all agencies were received on or ahead of schedule. LJB handled all aspects of the project from original survey through construction inspection.

Because the project area was near elementary, intermediate and middle schools, it was important that the project had a fast-track design in order to finish construction before the start of the school year in the fall.
