At the city’s wastewater treatment plant, workers faced fall hazards of up to 65 feet, due to exposed openings at several wet and dry wells. LJB worked with a team of City staff members to establish potential solutions for each situation. Those solutions were evaluated with a variety of criteria, including risk, short- and long-term cost, ability to ventilate, and worker productivity. For both the wet and dry wells, the team developed and discussed three conceptual solutions. Using conceptual designs allowed the team to visualize the solutions, anticipate challenges and gather input from multiple perspectives. With buy-in from all city stakeholders, solutions were selected, designed and installed.
