LJB designed two cast-in-place reinforced concrete slab bridges on SR 698 in Hancock County. LJB worked closely with ODOT District 1 and the Office of Geotechnical Engineering (OGE) during the structure type study to determine the most appropriate and cost-efficient structure types for the project. Our team first completed a hydraulic analysis and scour assessment for each structure during the structure type study. The first bridge was a replacement of a three-span slab bridge with another three-span slab structure. For the second bridge, a new three-span slab was used to replace the existing two-span slab and was designed in a slight horizontal curve. Both new structures utilize reinforced concrete wall type piers and abutments founded on spread footings keyed into the underlying bedrock.
