After this bridge had been closed to traffic due to structural deficiencies, LJB was contracted to provide a feasibility study for replacing the bridge with a culvert. During the initial flood study, LJB concluded that a simple span box beam bridge would be more cost efficient than the large multiple box culverts that would be required for a No-Rise Certification due to an upstream home within the FEMA floodplain. Our transportation team then proceeded with design services for the bridge replacement. The design included a new bridge on a realignment to minimize impacts to local property owners and avoid impacts to existing utilities, including an aerial sewer crossing. Additional services included hydraulics, roadway, erosion control, and traffic control.
