County Road 25A Phase III Reconstruction

  •

This project widened 3,900 feet of County Road 25A with a center turn lane, new curb and gutter, new storm sewer, and nearly 2,000 feet of new sanitary sewer service to accommodate future development. The project also added a shared-use path and tree lawn on one side, as well as an enhanced pedestrian crossing that uses a Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacon (RRFB) at the entrance of the school property to increase safety for children walking to school. The existing traffic signal was modified to match the new alignment, and traffic was detoured during construction.

The main challenge of this project was that it had an extremely tight right-of-way acquisition time frame to maintain construction funding. LJB had to develop a vertical and horizontal alignment that would reduce the number of right-of-way impacts to properties. The final alignments only required takes from 10 property owners, which allowed the acquisition to be completed six months ahead of schedule.

Because acquisition was completed early, construction started three months ahead of schedule, giving the city a full construction season to complete the widening, which occurred on schedule.

LJB successfully coordinated this project with Phase II of the corridor widening, which was being constructed while this project was under design. We also coordinated with utility companies working along the corridor, including the city’s relocation of several city-owned power poles.
