A large industrial organization engaged LJB to conduct a comprehensive assessment of fixed ladders across multiple facilities to better understand fall risks and prepare for updated OSHA walking-working surface requirements. The project included evaluating permanently installed ladders exceeding 24 feet in height and documenting ladder location, height, fall exposure, and potential safety concerns.
At 15 facilities across the United States, our team assessed more than 5,100 fixed ladders, creating a complete inventory and categorizing each ladder based on risk priority. The results identified 748 ladders requiring higher-priority attention, allowing the organization to focus improvements where fall exposure and planning phased upgrades.
By transforming a complex safety challenge into a structured, data-driven program, the assessment provided the client with a clear roadmap for improving ladder safety, allocating resources effectively, and preparing for OSHA’s 2036 fixed ladder fall protection compliance deadline.
