Stroop Road Bridge

  •

LJB was selected for this emergency project to replace the deficient, single-span prestressed concrete box beam bridge over the Little Beaver Creek that carries four lanes of traffic. LJB’s commitment to an aggressive schedule allowed for the bridge to be completed and open to traffic within one year.

LJB performed an abbreviated structure type study, including hydraulic analysis of the creek to validate construction of a single-span concrete slab bridge. Roadway approach improvements included sidewalk and multi-use path connections across the bridge, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and new dedicated left-turn lanes.

LJB completed all field investigations and the design phase in six months, including coordinating the relocation of a 12-inch water main and a 3-inch gas main. To avoid the risk of bridge contractor delay for utility relocations, LJB coordinated the relocation of the 12-inch water main with Montgomery County Environmental Services as a separate project.
